Have you ever wanted your website to be a hazard to those with photosensitive epilepsy? Or maybe you just want cool and colourful moving images? Blinkies achieve that. They serve as cool little badges that "blink" and add some nice colour to a website! Some examples below:

A quick and easy way to create personalised blinkies for your website is the blinkies maker! This site allows you to use pre-made blinkie designs and apply your own text over them. Have you ever wanted a pony to represent your embarrassing but relatable childhood experience?

Well I did. And much more can be made and tailored to you! The only limit is the blinkie backgrounds! Once you've generated a blinkie, you can download it and upload to your own website to use!
Come and see him! Hahaha! Haha!
Surf the Web for Some Blinkies
Blinkies are fairly commonplace in personal websites. This means that you can find and uplift them from other people's pages and onto your own! Neocities is a super popular site for hosting static websites for free, and thus it contains lots and lots of public personal sites of other people. You can browse Neocities-hosted sites through Their browsing page. Some people also make blinkie collections for others to use! Searching for "blinkie collections" in your search browser will return lots of domains with blinkies galore! In the right social media spaces, you can also find people making and sharing themed blinkie packs. Tumblr is quite popular for this, and searching for blinkies on social media is a plausible strategy to collect some fandom-specific blinkies.
Make Your Own!
You want to know how to make blinkies yourself? Well that's so cool. Read this section if you want to get started!
A typical blinkie's resolution is 150x20px! If you want your blinkies to conform and look nicer next to other, pre-made ones, use this size as a guide! You can make larger blinkies that conform to this aspect ratio too!
To create a blinkie, you should use an image editing software of your choice that allows you to draw pixel-by-pixel easily, and preferably supports the creation of animation. Recommended software is Aseprite, a paid but easy to use software for pixel art and spritework. If the price puts you off, LibreSprite is a sure alternative, as it is a fork of Aseprite but completely free and open-source.
When creating blinkies, anything goes! There isn't any standard that has to be met regarding the contents, so make what you like! One popular feature is a blinking/spinning frame. Blinkies will often have these as a way to grab attention to them since its a moving picture and that's kind of awesome.
In the examples above, the borders appear to alternate between colours or move in a rotating fashion, like a conveyor belt around the blinkie. Of course, these aren't necessary features of blinkies though; and you can put any graphics into a blinkie, whether its a piece of text:
Or maybe some cool 3D art scaled to fit in a blinkie:
Or maybe even some cool or bizarre animations and artwork that you want to show off on your webpage:
There really are no rules, so get creative!
